Canadian Construction Association Conference
HE CANADIAN CONSTRUCTION ASSOCIATION (CCA) held its
2024 Annual Conference, in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic at the Paradisus Palma Real Golf and
Resort Spa. During the four-day event, the CCA
held its National Advisory Council and Annual
General meeting.
The conference included a keynote from Juno
award-winning musician turned entrepreneur and
AI advocate David Usher, who focused on the future
of Arti昀椀cial Intelligence (AI) and its integration into
construction and the workplace, and how AI can be
leveraged for enhanced productivity and success in
the construction sector.
During the Annual General Meeting, Francis Roy,
president and CEO of Groupe Humaco companies, was
appointed chair of the 2024-26 Board of Directors.
“My primary goal will be to support a healthy
environment where communication is encouraged and

valued so that everyone can contribute meaningfully to
the achievement of our association’s strategic objectives,”
said Roy. “I 昀椀rmly believe in the power of collaboration,
engagement, and innovation.”
The CEO Roundtable, featuring EllisDon’s Kieran
Hawe, EBC Inc.’s Marie-Claude Houle, and moderated by
CCA president, Mary Van Buren, discussed the value of
de昀椀ning and evolving corporation’s purpose and the link
to employee engagement and organizational success.
“If we want to attract good people to construction, it
needs to be fun. Employees need to have the opportunity
to work on interesting projects,” said Houle.
Added Hawe: “Although our values will never waver,
we must however embrace new technologies, new
markets, and new ways of working that enhance our
competitive edge and our social impact. These initiatives
also create career opportunities — it helps raise the glass
ceiling for our young leaders.”
