SCARBOROUGH SUBWAY EXTENSION

THE GOVERNMENT OF ONTARIO broke ground on
the 昀椀rst of three stations for the Scarborough Subway Extension.
Crews have started piling work at Scarborough
Centre Station, which will accommodate more than
10,000 passengers and facilitate over 7,000 transfers
during rush hour once complete.
The Scarborough Subway Extension will extend
the TTC’s Line 2 subway service 7.8 kilometres
farther into Scarborough, from Kennedy Station to
Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road.
“Getting started on the stations for this important stretch of new transit is a pivotal moment for
Scarborough,” said Michael Lindsay, president
and CEO, Metrolinx. “During morning rush hour
alone, the three stations along the Scarborough
Subway Extension will see nearly 30,000 people
pass through them. With convenient connections to
other bus and train lines that span across the community and the region, this project is going to make
it easier to choose transit 昀椀rst.”
