to 昀椀nd solutions.”
In a keynote address from Josh Morgan,
chair, Big City Mayors’ Caucus and Mayor
of London, discussed the pressing need for
new investments in municipal infrastructure
across Canada, and how innovative partnerships between the public and private sector
can help ensure the sustainable development
of Canadian cities.
“The overall level of 昀椀nancial support that
municipalities have is insu昀케cient to provide
the adequate public infrastructure in the
long-term,” he told delegates. “We can work
together. To plan better, to procure better and
to build better.”
At the P3 National Awards Gala Luncheon, seven Canadian infrastructure projects were awarded 2024 National Awards for
Innovation and Excellence in Public-Private
Partnerships.
Transformational healthcare facilities
dominated the awards, with winners announced in Newfoundland and Labrador,
Quebec and Ontario.
The seven award winners also included an
all-season highway in the Northwest Territories, a new courthouse in downtown Toronto
and a school bundling project now serving
7,000 students in Alberta.
“We had a tremendous group of 10 nominees this year, showcasing the vitality and
variety of P3s delivering critical services to
Canadians in communities across the country. In particular, the projects we celebrated
this year showcase the long-term nature of
P3 agreements and the strong spirit of partnership required to deliver quality services
to our communities for decades,” said Brad
Nicpon, chair of the Awards Selection Committee.
“These project teams are collaborating
together to 昀椀nd innovative ways of providing better care and experiences for patients,
students and families, to reduce greenhouse
gas emissions and lower ongoing operational costs, and in being more inclusive to
welcome, represent and bene昀椀t Canada’s
diverse communities.”
