an environmental assessment certificate. Before construction can begin,
there are several more steps, including
obtaining permits (such as a Fisheries
Act Authorization and a Species at Risk Act permit), continuing consultation and
collaboration with First Nations, assessing market conditions, starting procurement,
and preparing for a final investment decision.

Surrey Hospital and
B.C. Cancer Centre
$2.88 BILLION
The first of its kind in British Columbia, the new
Surrey hospital and B.C. Cancer Centre will be a
fully digitally equipped, fully electric facility that
will be at the forefront of health care innovation,
technology and sustainability. As a next generation
health care facility within Fraser Health, the new
hospital and cancer centre will integrate digital
and virtual health innovation to increase clinical
capacity, expand access to care for patients and
their families, and improve patient outcomes. The
new state-of-the-art hospital will provide increased
capacity in areas such as emergency, surgical, inpatient, ambulatory care, medical imaging, laboratory,
pharmacy, and cancer care services, to support
thousands of additional patients every year.
The new hospital and cancer centre will feature
168 acuity-adaptable inpatient beds, a surgical/
perioperative suite with five operating rooms, four
procedure rooms, and an emergency department
with 55 treatment spaces. The BC Cancer Centre
will be one of the largest in the province.
