The City of Toronto is taking a proactive approach to managing the rehabilitation of the Gardiner Expressway to keep the
roadway in a state of good repair. The Plan addresses the re-
habilitation of the expressway, extending from Highway 427 to
the eastern limit at the Don Valley Parkway (DVP), including
the 11-km at-grade section from Highway 427 to Dufferin Street
with its 32 bridges and structures, and the 7-km elevated section from Dufferin Street to the DVP with 335 spans. The eastern
section is also part of several urban renewal projects underway
nearby and incorporates the change of scope for the rehabilitation portion east of Jarvis Street based on an environmental
assessment.
In 2022, the City began procurement for the second section
in the Rehabilitation Plan and will rebuild and repair the elevated portion of the Expressway between Dufferin Street and
Strachan Avenue.
This work is concurrent with several major initiatives in the
area such as a new Exhibition Station being built by Metrolinx
and CNE BMO Field preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Construction is anticipated to begin in 2023, once the procurement process is completed.

The new hospital complex (NCH) aims to consolidate the clinical services currently offered at the Hôtel-Dieu de Québec and
the Enfant-Jésus Hospital. The project consists of constructing
new buildings on the site of the Enfant-Jésus hospital and redeveloping certain existing spaces.
The radio-oncology services were moved in May 2022 from
the Hôtel-Dieu de Québec site to the site of the Enfant-Jésus
hospital where an integrated cancer center has been built. The
other services of the Hôtel-Dieu will be integrated into the new
critical care pavilion of the NCH as well as into the redesigned
spaces of the Hôpital de l’Enfant-Jésus.
The NCH will have 700 hospital beds, including 105 critical
care beds, 30 operating rooms and 60 emergency stretchers.

In February 2019, the Government of British Columbia approved the business plan for a new St. Paul’s Hospital in downtown Vancouver.
The new hospital will continue to serve as an acute-care hospital and integrated health campus. The new facility will be expanded to a capacity of 548 beds and will be the home of several
leading provincial programs and referral centres, including for
heart and lung care, renal, eating disorders and specialty surgeries and transplants.
The project will be done in two phases, consisting of the new
core hospital and a clinical support and research centre.
