Burnaby Hospital Redevelopment
$2.4 BILLION
The Burnaby Hospital redevelopment is a multi-phase project that will transform the hospital into a modernized medical
and surgical health care campus. It will see two new patient
care towers, new cancer centre, and expansion and renovations
to existing buildings on campus. The first phase will include the
construction of the new Keith and Betty Beedie Pavilion and
the expansion and renovations to the existing Support Facilities
Building. Construction is currently underway, and the new
buildings are expected to open in 2025. The second phase will
increase the hospital’s bed capacity a nd expand cancer services. Procurement is underway for phase two and the projected
timeline for completion is in 2030.

The scope of work for the
first capital project includes
the design and construction
of a new headworks facility
that will include a raw sewage
pump station, a micro-tunnel
extension of existing interceptor
sewers, a grit removal system, a
main control room, fine screens
and compactors, and a plant
emergency generator facility. This
project is currently in construction. The second capital project
includes the design and construction of a new biosolids facilities that will address
end-of-life equipment and regulatory requirements regarding the recovery of nutrients and maximizing biosolids reuse. It will add new facilities to treat the sludge
from the City’s three sewage treatment plants and replace end-of-life equipment.

This project is currently in the procurement phase. The third capital project
includes the design and construction of the nutrient removal facilities that will
remove nitrogen and phosphorus from the wastewater. This project is currently
in the planning stage.

St. Paul’s Hospital
$2.3 BILLION
In February 2019, the Government of British Columbia approved the business
plan for a new St. Paul’s Hospital in the False Creek Flats. The new hospital will
continue to serve as an acute-care hospital and integrated health campus. The
new facility will be expanded to a capacity of 548 beds and be the home of several
leading provincial programs and referral centres, including for heart and lung care,
renal, eating disorders, and specialty surgeries and transplants.
