The Québec Bridge,

of Canada in 1995.
The Government of Canada has formalized ownership of the Québec Bridge with the signing of a deed of transfer between the
federal government and Canadian National Railway.
AFTER REACHING AN AGREEMENT in principle with Canadian National Railway (CN) to transfer ownership of the Québec Bridge
earlier this year, Public Services and Procurement Canada
(PSPC) announced that the Government of Canada has formalized ownership of the historic structure with the signing
of a deed of transfer between Canada and CN.
“The Québec Bridge is a critical and major infrastructure for the Quebec City region. By repatriating this essential link, we are ensuring that the bridge can continue to
bene昀椀t not only our country’s economy, but also the users
and residents of the greater Quebec City region,” said
PSPC Minister Jean-Yves Duclos.
The Québec Bridge is a major road, rail, and pedestrian
bridge linking the shores of Quebec City and Lévis, Que.
Built in 1917, it is considered one of Canada’s architectural

gems, and was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1995.
Management of the Québec Bridge will be entrusted
to the federal Crown corporation Jacques Cartier and
Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI), which will
assume all responsibilities as owner of the infrastructure,
including implementing the rehabilitation plan for the
Québec Bridge that will see more than $40 million invested annually over a 25-year period.
“Our team is excited to begin this new mandate to maintain this iconic structure. At the same time, we know how
important this structure is to the population of the greater
Quebec City area and all of Quebec, and we are committed
to restoring the beauty of this great structure while extending its lifespan,” said JCCBI’s CEO Sandra Martel.
