ONTARIO BREAKS GROUND ON
NEW PETER GILGAN MISSISSAUGA HOSPITAL
“Today’s groundbreaking is a
testament to what’s possible when
government, donors and community
come together with a shared vision
for the future.”
6—RENEW CANADA – SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2025
THE GOVERNMENT OF ONTARIO marked the groundbreaking of Trillium Health Partners’ new
Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital. Ontario is
investing more than $14 billion to build the new
2.8-million-square-foot Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital, tripling the size of the existing Mississauga Hospital to help provide health care to
an estimated 2.2 million people. The new hospital will become the largest teaching hospital
in Canada, will create one of the biggest emergency departments in the province and will
include the Shah Family Hospital for Women
and Children.
“Today’s groundbreaking means more
beds, more doctors and more nurses right
here in Mississauga. It also means a stronger
health-care system for decades to come,” said
Premier Doug Ford.
Once open, the state-of-the-art hospital will
bring 2,400 more health-care workers and
approximately 400 additional doctors to the
community. With preconstruction activities
well underway, the site is anticipated to reach
substantial completion by 2033, with hospital
operations expected to transition into the
facility in 2034.
“Today’s groundbreaking is a testament to
what’s possible when government, donors
and community come together with a shared
vision for the future. We are deeply grateful
to the Government of Ontario, the City of
Mississauga, our generous donors, team THP,
our many partners and the entire community
who are helping us build a new era of health
care,” said Karli Farrow, president and CEO,
Trillium Health Partners.
