Bloor-Yonge Station Capacity
Improvements
$1.5 BILLION
Bloor-Yonge Station will be undergoing a design retrofit and significant expansion
to meet both current and future ridership demand. The Bloor-Yonge Station project
includes the construction of a new Line 2 passenger platform and the expansion of
both Line 1 passenger platforms, enhancements to the concourse level, entrances, exits
and improved accessibility features. Advanced construction started in May 2023, and
includes the removal of the buildings at 81 Bloor Street East and 40 and 42 Hayden
Street to construct a new, accessible subway entrance as a part of the larger project.

Royal Columbian Hospital
Redevelopment Project
$1.49 BILLION
The Royal Columbian Hospital redevelopment is a threephase, multi-year project that will increase the hospital’s
capacity by approximately 50 per cent, introduce advanced
medical technologies and improve the health care environment
for staff and patients. Phase 1’s Mental Health and Substance
Use Wellness Centre opened in August 2020. Phase 2, now
under construction, will create the new Jim Pattison Acute Care
Tower with more beds, a larger Emergency Department and
more operating rooms. Phase 2 is expected to be complete in
2025. Phase 3 will upgrade and expand areas in existing buildings to support the beds and services in the new acute care
tower. Phase 3 construction is expected to begin in 2024.

and ambulatory services, including seven
operating rooms, and additional procedure

EllisDon Corporation and Parkin Architects Western Ltd, were awarded the
contract to design and construct the hospital after a competitive process in
which multiple proponents submitted bids and designs under an Alliance project
delivery model. Under this delivery model, the project owner (Island Health
and the Province of BC) and the private sector share risks and opportunities,
operating as a fully integrated team to complete the project.
