Mary Van Buren
Julie Gascon
After six successful years as the president of the Canadian Construction Association (CCA), Mary Van Buren has announced that she will
be leaving the association in the spring of 2024. As the first female
president in the association’s more than century long history, she has
guided CCA into a new era that is digital first and inclusive. Her focus on modernization
was critical in CCA’s ability to navigate the pandemic, while advocating on behalf of the
industry and continuing to deliver member value in the face of a global crisis.
The Montreal Port Authority (MPA) announced the appointment
of Julie Gascon to the position of president and CEO. Gascon is
a passionate advocate of marine transportation and has held
several strategic positions with Transport Canada and the
Canadian Coast Guard. Previously, she was president and CEO of the Pacific
Pilotage Authority.

Anton Pojasok
PCL Construction announced that Anton Pojasok has joined the
company as director of Sustainability. With more than 27 years
experience, Pojasok will drive PCL’s strategic sustainability plan and
road map including goal tracking, value added expertise and a range
of services provided to clients and project teams related to sustainable design
and construction. Prior to joining PCL, Pojasok was vice president of environmental
management at Ontario Realty Corporation—Infrastructure Ontario.
Infrastructure BC announced the appointments of
Ivan Malis P.Eng., PMP, as a project director and
Alex Hewitt, M.Eng., a senior associate. Malis brings
over 15 years of experience in engineering design,
construction, project, and program management. He previously worked for the City
of Vancouver, where he and his team were responsible for delivering a portfolio of
complex, large-scale programs and projects. Hewitt has over 10 years of experience developing major infrastructure projects in the U.K., U.S., and Canada. She
previously worked for KPMG, where she specialized in financial modelling, project
procurement, and commercial strategy for public sector clients.
Greg Quandt
AECOM announced that Greg Quandt has been named its environment regional business line lead for Canada, based out of Burnaby,
B.C. Quandt brings nearly 30 years of experience in the environmental
services industry, including tenure with AECOM legacy companies URS
and Gartner Lee.
Michael McSweeney
The Ontario Stone Sand and Gravel Association (OSSGA) announced
the appointment of Michael McSweeney as its new executive director. McSweeney recently completed a year-long project as Ontario
Road Builders Association (ORBA) CEO where he successfully worked
with the ORBA board to refocus its efforts to better compete in a time of unprecedented infrastructure investment in Ontario. Prior to that assignment Michael was
president and CEO, Cement Association of Canada (CAC) for 12 years.
Stewart Smith
McElhanney Ltd. announced the appointment of Stewart Smith as
market sector vice president of Transportation & Transit. Smith brings
over two decades of experience in leading complex transportation
engineering projects. His extensive expertise and reputation within
the infrastructure industry make him an asset to McElhanney’s continued growth and
success in its markets.
Peter Xotta
The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority appointed Peter Xotta as
president and chief executive officer. Xotta most recently served as
vice president, operations and supply chain for the port authority,
where he was responsible for land and marine operations, health,
safety and security, and port and supply chain optimization activities. Throughout
his career, Xotta successfully led diverse portfolios including business development
and strategic projects. He was heavily involved in the port authority’s work with
local partners to secure funding for infrastructure projects.
Audrey Jacob
Arcadis announced the appointment of Audrey Jacob as city executive for Toronto. In this role, she will lead the company’s strategic
growth initiatives, pursue new business development opportunities
and partnerships, and oversee client relationships in the greater
Toronto region. The city executive appointment also marks the inaugural entry of a
Canadian city to the Arcadis Global Cities Program, a network of 17 cities around
the world identified as key markets for the company. Jacob brings more than 30
years of experience to this role across business development, urban planning/
development consultancy and management.

The Canadian Council
for Public-Private Partnerships announced its 2023-2024 Board of Directors. The
29-person volunteer board, including four new directors, was elected by member
organizations at the Council’s annual general meeting. Four new directors joined:
Derron Bain, managing director, Concert Infrastructure; Jillian Beaton, partner, Ernst
& Young LLP; Ella Plotkin, partner, Fasken; and Kevin Pringle, executive director,
Alternative Capital Financing and Partnerships Office, Alberta Infrastructure, Government of Alberta. “We had a number of incredibly talented and respected leaders
in Canadian infrastructure nominated for the board this year. We are pleased our
new directors are enhancing the Council’s national breadth and areas of expertise,”
said Johanne Mullen, CCPPP’s chair.

Stantec announced the promotion of Elisa Brandts, Architect AIBC,
AAA, OAA, NSAA, FRAIC to regional business leader for the Canada West region of its Buildings practice. Brandts is transitioning
from her position as operations leader for the firm’s 300-person
architecture and engineering practice in B.C. In her new role, she will drive strategic
thought leadership, business acumen, and consulting excellence for the region’s
multidisciplinary teams.
Dean Walker
Eastern Construction announced Dean Walker as its new president.
Walker joined Eastern Construction in 2005 starting off as a project
coordinator and over the course of his career, transitioned to superintendent, assistant project manager, project manager, and project
director. He joined the senior management Team in 2018 and was named executive
vice president in 2021.
