MAKING WAY
Tunnel boring operations have finished, marking the
completion of the most technically complex and
challenging part of the new Broadway Subway Project
construction. The two six-metre-wide tunnel-boring
machines, Elsie—being disassembled at Arbutus
Station—and Phyllis, launched separately from the
Great Northern Way-Emily Carr Station and tunneled to
their removal point at Cypress Street, just east of the
future Arbutus Station. The 5.7-kilometre extension of
the Millennium Line will open in 2027.
