This project is more than just a new Event Centre
(Scotia Place). It includes a number of improvements to
the area including: a new four-lane underpass under the
CP train tracks with wide sidewalks at 6th Street S.E.; a
community rink, outdoor and indoor gathering spaces;
Scotia Place and additional hosting space on a 10-acre
parcel of land; and improvements to 5 Street S.E and 15,
17 and 25 Avenue.

TRANSMISSION
Waasigan Transmission Line
$1.2 BILLION
The Waasigan Transmission Line, built in partnership with nine First Nations, will be a new double-circuit 230 kilovolt transmission line between
Lakehead Transformer Station (TS) in Shuniah and
Mackenzie TS in the Town of Atikokan, and a new
single-circuit 230 kilovolt transmission line between Mackenzie TS and Dryden TS in the City of
Dryden. Construction began in 2024 with the first
phase from Shuniah to Atikokan in-service at the
end of 2025 and the second phase from Atikokan
to Dryden in-service by the end of 2027.
