The original Louis-Hippolyte La Fontaine Tunnel was constructed in 1967 and needed significant rehabilitation to make
it viable for residents in Montreal. In August 2020, the contract
was awarded for the rehabilitation project. Construction work
began in 2021.
The main work in the tunnel consists of carrying out major
structural repairs, modernizing operating equipment, redeveloping service corridors, and adding fire protection.
In 2022, the work carried out aims to rebuild the roadway
of Highway 25 southbound between Sherbrooke Street and the
tunnel, as well as structural repairs in the Souligny interchange.
In the tunnel, repair work on the apron (element that is below
the carriageway and which is the base of the tunnel) in the
southbound tube is in progress, as are interventions to modernize the operating systems of the tunnel.
50 Calgary Cancer Centre $1.4 billion
This new comprehensive cancer centre is currently under construction at the Foothills Medical Centre site in Calgary. The
95,000-plus-square-metre complex will include 160 inpatient
beds, outpatient facilities
with over 100 exam rooms,
systemic treatment and
radiation treatment technologies, clinical trial units
and research laboratories, a
knowledge exchange centre
and 1,650 stalls of underground parking. The centre will provide
much-needed access to cutting-edge treatment and care for residents of Calgary and southern Alberta. Despite the impacts of the
COVID-19 pandemic, the project reached its topping off point in
late April 2020 and remains on schedule for completion in 2023.
The project is expected to achieve Substantial Completion end of
fall 2022, followed by a two-year warranty period. Commissioning process has begun, and user training will begin in early 2022
in preparation for turnover of the facility to Alberta Health Services Final submission for LEED accreditation is expected to be
submitted to the Canadian Green Building Council by the end of
2022 and for accreditation the following year.

The redevelopment will add two new patient-care towers with
new units and operating rooms, resulting in 399 beds on the
campus, a bigger emergency department and a new cancer

treatment centre. The last major upgrade to the Burnaby Hospital was more than 40 years ago.
The redevelopment begins with a new six-storey Keith and
Betty Beedie Pavilion with 83 beds in primarily single-patient
rooms with a private bathroom. The pavilion will include a
maternity unit, a neonatal intensive care unit and a medical inpatient unit with negative pressure rooms and outbreak zones
to isolate infectious diseases.
The six-storey pavilion, the new surgery centre and renovations to existing buildings are scheduled to be complete in
2026. The second patient-care tower is expected to have 160
new beds and a state-of-the-art cancer treatment centre.
