GO Kitchener Extension
$959 MILLION
The Kitchener GO extension will enhance train service over its outermost segment
to offer a versatile regional travel option that runs outside rush hour. To enable
two-way, all-day service on the Kitchener Line from Union Station to Kitchener GO,
improvements will be made along the rail corridor and to some existing stations on
the Kitchener Line. A key package of work between Georgetown and Kitchener was
completed in 2024, including: a 2.6 km passing track in Breslau; a new second
platform at Guelph Central GO Station; and the new storage track for maintenance
vehicles west of Guelph.

PORT
Port of Montreal
Contrecoeur Terminal
$950 MILLION
Last October, the MPA stated that it would be using a hybrid approach for the design and construction of its expansion project. In this approach, land side works will
be carried out by a private partner, while in-water works (including dock construction
and dredging) will be undertaken by the MPA with partner support. Under the collaborative DB approach, the contractor (CTCGP) and the master builder (MPA) will work
closely together throughout the project’s development phase to finalize the design
and arrive at an estimated schedule and cost for the project works.

REMEDIATION
Giant Mine
Remediation Project
$934 MILLION
Between 1948 and 2004, operations at the
Giant Mine site grew to encompass roughly 900
hectares, including several ponds and small lakes.
In 1999, the former operator entered receivership
and the Government of Canada, and the Government of Northwest Territories became responsible
for the site. Mining operations continued until
2004. Several environmental and site remediation
needs were identified. This included cleaning up
the 237,000 tonnes of arsenic trioxide dust left
behind in underground chambers and 16 million
tonnes of tailings, open pits, debris, and site
infrastructure.
Today, the project’s goals are to: minimize public health and safety risks; minimize the release
of contaminants from the site to the surrounding
environment; remediate the site in a manner
that instills public confidence; and implement a
remediation approach that is cost-effective and
robust.
